Key themes
The inaugural meeting of the Australian Council of Local Government is the next step in forging a new partnership between federal and local governments.
There are a number of key issues where federal and local governments can and do work together to help improve the quality of life in our communities.
The 18 November meeting will be an important step in this cooperative engagement by focusing on issues where dialogue and partnership can achieve concrete results for communities. Breakout sessions are expected to be based around the following themes:
- improving engagement of local and federal governments, including Constitutional recognition; [

Breakout session structure
Participants, through the online registration facility, will nominate their preferred theme sessions in order of priority. Attendance at breakout sessions will be on a first-come first-served basis. Preferences will be accommodated to the extent possible and according to room size.
The discussions will be chaired by a relevant Australian Government Minister and involve short presentations from invited speakers to stimulate the discussions. Sessions will be professionally facilitated and supported by scribes. The outcomes of the discussions will be summarised at the closing plenary and will inform the future work of the Australian Council of Local Government.
